Slow, thought provoking at every step on the plight of widows as non persons. The film score is terrific, beautiful scenic shots around Benares and a fittting ending. Perhaps it's a film you watch just the once but you won't regret it, it'll have have left an idelible mark on your consciousness.

Finally a sensitive, sensible and powerful movie of all times, the life of Widows, marginalized life of powerless women subjugated with cultural norms and the corrupt police. This movie is so real to the core.

I think I am just happy that Neena Gupta is getting to play all these diverse roles finally that were reserved for inane nepo kids like Shabana Azmi who says nepotism is everywhere and a doctor child becomes doctor just by sheer birth and no education required. The Hindu community has always realised its problems and brought in an awareness through dramas, movies , books. That is the mark of a progressive society. Wish movies are made on Triple talaq, Nikaah halal, forceful conversions by missionaries etc.

It is not only the men or society that is being cruel to the widows. One widow is equally cruel to the other. Let us not forget that

95% of the widows of today don’t wear white . In fact many look like any other . May be not the sindoor which ofcourse is just a mark of a married woman. Don’t take single incidents to show the society in poor light . Have some courage to show more heinous things like triple talaq, Nikaah halal, sexual exploitation by mullahs and pastors.

what a great movie ,,,height of emotions

Absolutely loved it as we come to find out how widows are treated, together with orphans and all aspects of life. I hope this tradition of widows is no longers happening in India or any part of the world.

Beautiful movie

This is worth a watch . The setting is magical Benares , the story is sad ,disturbing in parts , sweet , dark but inspiring as well . Can’t find any fault with the acting - in fact it was flawless ( always a treat to watch Neena Gupta ) and loved the ending . I learnt something new - that as recent as 2013 widows in Benares were deprived of the simplest things in life which can be considered pleasurable and it took the Supreme Court all these years to correct this injustice .....
