good storyline but very slow movie due to lack of content. performance is good. the characters portrayed are not very complex.

Such a nonsense movie.. I don't know how his another movie 'the great indian kitchen' was hit in malayalam.. It was extremely unrealistic one. Which girl in this era cooks 24/7? It was real over drama...This movie is also the same... Any girl can find if husband is gay or not within a week after marriage... No one would stay in the marriage unless she has other benefits(property or any other monetary gains)..

Disappointed by the comments. This is the reality of desi folks. They will act lgbt friendly in front of colleagues with gay partners but in reality most are extremely homophobic! Pathetic.

This story or theme could have been directed well but this is such a boring movie. I would blame the director for this. Very disappointed.

If this movie collects any records at the box office, it is only because Mammootty is there in the movie. Not a good idea to spread among the society.

Have to admire the Malayalees for accepting a star of the stature of Mamooty in such a role. A very neatly presented movie on a very complex subject.

What a wonderful movie. The director and actors were courage enough to show the world that how our society punish LGBTQ. This is an eye opener to our society. All humans should be treated equally. Joe Baby, writers and actors did a very good job.

My God Mammootty ranks the side of Kannadaasan SPB Ilaiyaraja what a character When Jyothika and Mammooka hug together in bed in the last scene I cried The Director and mammooka deserve a lot to talk about homosexuality

Awesome movie!! A concurrent social issue portrayed well in this movie!! Direction, story, screen play, performance and everything is excellent!! I do remember another similar movie, but on a different subject, in Malayalam in the '80s, Thani Avarthanam, by Mamootty!! Only mallu directors think differently!! Hats off!!

Mammootty’s role never fitted him. Movie presentation was good.

Was a surprise and I never thought Mamootty would take up such a role (this is the kind of movie that Mohanlal would usually take up). Very bold and brilliant work. Slow but strong. Good message, and Mamooty doing this movie just shows what a brilliant actor he is.

Slow,gay,disclosure

The focus point of this movie not being gay or straight. It is about the social system in third world developing countries like India where people, especially females are forced to embark in and continue with extremely unsatisfied marriages just to satisfy the so-called social norms. Even the judicial system is so inhumane and paternalistic forcing people to publicly expose their sexuality and other very personal matters to other mocking people just to be 'blessed' with divorce by 'My Lord'.

The movie boldly aims to address a very delicate problem. But the fact that two educated couples have to wash their dirty linen in public and expose their extremely personal matters and sexuality to be granted divorce from court rather than going for a mutual separation without proclaiming the reasons to the public, still remains a loose end.

Not clear why the film is named Kaathal. Omana may have loved Mathew, but Mathew definitely did not have any love for Omana. He is just the typical patriarch who does not care about his wife's feelings or opinions. He was ignoring all her attempts to discuss and resolve the unhappiness in their marriage.

The worst thing is that he did not have any guilty conscience to seek the same pleasure that he has been denying his wife for years. Not sure whether he wanted Omana also to engage in extramarital affairs like him. He never thought that Omana would file for divorce after 20 years of marriage and thought she would live like a slave all her life as she was bound by a marriage which happened in heaven and blessed by the angels.

Jyotika was brilliant in this film.... Mammootty with his film choices just rocks these days!!! But it was a hard watch at places when you have conservative mindset and especially when you are a emotional romantic and somehow want Omana and Matthew to reconcile their differences and live happily ever after. I know it was progressive and all and beautifully acted and narrated, but I wished for a different ending.

Brilliant movie. Handling a subject like this in a regressive society requires extreme care. For a superstar like Mammooty to act in a role like this requires extreme courage.

What a beautiful movie - both Mammooty and Jyothika have handled excellently the sensitive topic of homosexuality without any animosity or drama that would have been typical of any other movie. Watch if you have any sympathy towards gay people, otherwise your impressions would be biased and negative.

Im cmpletely against ths gay mvie, i knw few people r brn with naturaly atracted to same gender (I suprt if they wnt to b in relation with same gender),but majority of people are influenced by the society, you have to understand that the sexuality is fluid until the age 15 - 20. so based on the societies trend, peer pressure, exposure to digital media, and family influence the sexuality can be influenced.Though it is fluid majority of people hav sum bit of by default atraction towards oposite sex. Bt again the preference is formed based on what the child is expsed to from the age of 3-15 -20
