Why are people watching movies when they don't understand the language? Without understanding the language, history, culture of the people, it is impossible convey the true meaning of the movie with just subtitles.

It is true that subtitles do not convey the whole depth of the dialogue. But I think you should appreciate people trying to watch movies although they are not proficient in the language.

There are telugu children growing abroad, who can speak telugu but cant understand the movie dialogues fully..... they understand better if there is subtitles!!!!!!!!!

Well, I enjoy watching a variety of Indian movies and unfortunately I don’t know the languages, especially the regional ones. I’ve traveled to India 5 times since 2014 and made many friends throughout my travels. Watching regional movies reminds me of places I’ve visited as well as some of the culture and customs of the areas. Although I don’t have a full appreciation for all the history and culture throughout, I find I can also learn a lot from the movies I’ve seen and gives me good topics to ask friends so I can learn even more. Learning enriches understanding of each other. ..

This is ignorance at its best. I watch Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, korean.. etc without knowing the languages or their culture and I enjoy them more than I do with regular telugu or hindi movies. that is the beauty of subtitles. seems like you never watched a foreign move

This was a really good movie. showing the beauty and the values of Indian tradition and weddings and about family values which are more important. I liked the cast too, they were perfect in their characters.

while I like the move what we are ignoring two key points as the old lady says the saare is not enough. 1. Her son might have to struggle financially for unnecessary luxuries. 2. The groom's family may not ( and in 80% of the cases won't) have use for 80% of saare. So the old lady basically drove her son to bankruptcy while wasting a lot of food that could've been given to poor.
