Man alive, what an overrated film. Some half-baked readings of Karl Marx will make you think like this in the 50s. In India, this is considered good? Technically the film is well made, no doubt about that. But the acting and writing is sub-par to say the least.

A timeless classic that i found to be a very moving tale of unrequited love that finally allows true love to be realized. The film really promotes the cultivation of empathy and compassion in viewers' hearts for all those who are downtrodden. Film scholar and book-author (Filming the Gods) Rachel Dwyer has pointed out in an excellent online article the numerous spiritual references in Pyaasa, from Christianity and Vaisnava Hindu traditions.
