as long as one subscribes to the narrative that native indian thought-process is "brahminical-patriarchy" and inherently bad; and royalty (kings, queens) are inherently "good"; and 1975 "nasbandhi" was an inevitable consequence done by the good-hearted dynastic scum - yes, this movie can be a "one time watch". IMO - it's a pathetic attempt at denigrating the native thought-process of bharath (which is not without its flaws, mistakes, horrors). Ppl shud read denigration of Dr. Abdus salam of pakistan even after his death. Allah Hafiz.

Dude. You are forgetting that this movie is based on a true story /events in INDIA. (It's not some kind of analytical thesis ) Having said that Patriach set up is dog days old. Jews, Muslims, Arabs, Hindus, Conserevative Christians no one, I repeat no one is immune. Time has come to look within and deal with that element (Patriarch) our selves. Let the acknowledgement come from the women in our homes. Hallelujah / Shalom / Jai Shree Ram/ Khuda Hafiz.

Bkd S.. the director tries to portray compulsory nasbandhi as an inherent good. the black-and-white portrayal of men v/s women COULD NOT BE FURTHER from truth. Truth is far more sophisticated & complex. No 1 here denies horrible things done in each culture/religion. Problem is placing all of that at the feet of "patriarchy" - which is laughable if innocent but deplorable since this is an intentional narrative. Who did u like more - ur naana or naani - daada or daadi. 90% of kids will say naani/daadi. Impact of patriarchy, no? Allah Hafiz

Yes, kids might say naani/dadi and one reason could be patriarchy. How? "Somehow it's a demeaning job to feed your grandkids or bathe them, tell them bed-time stores. It's a woman's job". It's another thing that you deny it doesn't exist. If I deny something that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it means I have such a small mindset that I can't accept the reality. Btw I loved both my naani/nanani equally. Because they dint care if I was their poti and not pota.

Hello Anu! It tells more about your character than anything else by being judgmental. Please don’t generalize everything, good and bad in both genders, I know India is very male dominated and the movie very much reflects reality of ignorance and hopefully people like you should educate others instead of bickering and basking in ignorance.

Mean Comments.. ? Grammatically Incorrect.. ? Who Cares.. You understood what I said.. But I guess, People like you wont even understand the Pain these women have to Endure.. Here is a True Story (as a proof), showing you, how we are Torturing these Women, on every step of life. This isn't about some Village in India. 48% of Population in India is Women, but less then 65% are literate. Rape Rate is same as Qatar.. Unless People like you wont learn to Co-Exist Equally.. More and more Women will be harmed by people like you.

But Anu, you can't blame an entire gender for the atrocities done by a few. If someone intends to commit a crime it's on them and just them and no one else. This hatred is toxic and is the sole reason why feminism is turning toxic. To do justice to one gender, you need not do injustice to another.

narrative building is nauseating. had to puke at the director's thought-process. Kings-queens-royalty are "good". Ordinary village-people thinking is horrible. 1975 nasbandhi is "good". Native, aboriginal ideas, concepts are horrible. Did the director get ghoonghat/purdah origins in vedas or upanishads or sikh/jain-texts? Men in general are horrible, lazy, & just abuse women. So, anus-rag kash-yup is not a man - heck, it's a parasitic vermin. chadarmod director & r_&_i top-c panni. Thoo. Allah Hafiz.

I don't understand about your 'Allah Hafiz.' Is it some kind of signature or what ? I invite you to visit the location of the story line and see for your self the set up and costumes. Bkd S. Visiting location, set-up & costumes will prove what? This story tries to show a black-and-white view of gender-relations. Truth is far from it. Just go to ur naani or daadi & ask her what were the +ves and -ves of her teenage years. Ask her about her grand-mother/s life. It is never black-and-white. Women of the past were POWERFUL too and not some weaklings as this director tries to showcase. Oh, and let "Allah Hafiz" remain an enigma to you. Allah Hafiz.

This is a beautiful film, inspiring and done with a lot of soul. The artistic liberties and the over emphasis given to highlight the issues can be over dramatized but in film it has to be done to stress the message, making it easy to understand for all audiences, even those who know nothing of the culture. All of the actors did a superb job, they should feel proud, it is a shame on India the film did not get it's due credit. The message was loud and clear: Men may be the head but the women have always been neck that holds that head up right, the very spine of any culture or group.

I don't you have learned anything from entertainment industry. They never cared or will ever care about society. They sell what people buy, now it's trend for "real life inspired stories" or story of some athlete. These actors only care until their movie is released. That tapsasi actoress is in demand, and will help producers make money, instead of some senior (who could be more talented ) actoress.

It’s sad and annoying to see those men laze all day and be fine example of uselessness! Many have written various comments, but in the end this is a very special and inspiring movie about Women and their infinite capacity to put their children first. Although it exposes / dramatizes old Indian beliefs and roles of women in rural India; it also shows that not all Indian men are cavemen and that some men can support women equally to men. I hope this movie inspires thoughtful conversation on stereotypes of our roles in our families and communities. I enjoyed this film.

A great film on the life of two quite quite remarkable women who overcame seemingly insurmountable social mores, prejudice and ridicule to inspire generations of women. Through sheer grit and determination they travelled beyond their village to places and events they had never heard of and succeeded in winning competition after competition. Credit should also go to the two lead actresses TP and BP who did such a great job in showing how hard life was for these women. One scene in particular when TP is carrying bricks on her head and throws them up two at a time landing them in perfect unison!
